Into the Woods- The Musical
05 JUNE 2015 - 14 JUNE 2015
07:00 pm - 02:00 pm

The Jacksonville State Drama Department, Oxford Performing Arts Center, and Jacksonville Opera Theatre present Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Into The Woods, June 5-6 and 12-13 at 7 P.M. and June 14 at 2 P.M.

Opening on Broadway in 1987, Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Tony award winning masterpiece has been enchanting theatergoers ever since. Enjoy an imaginative and thoughtful journey through a world inhabited by traditional fairy tale characters. The show beautifully blends several fairy tales and answers the question of what happens AFTER "happily ever after." A baker and his wife are approached by the local witch and told that if they want to reverse the curse caused by the Baker's father, they must collect a very specific list of items. Through their journey, they learn that even reversing a curse may not be all that as good as it seems. This all new production will no doubt capture the enchantment of the original with an evocative approach and amazing local talent.

D-Day 2015: Honor and Remember
05 JUNE 2015
09:30 am - 12:00 pm

Help us to honor the "greatest generation" at Berman Museum's second annual D-Day remembrance event, on Friday, June 5. Beginning at 9:30am, guests will share in a light breakfast of fruit and Danish with family, friends, and the honored WWII veterans in attendance. The remembrance event will begin outside, in the Museum's front parking lot. Join us in recognizing all those who gave their lives during WWII, and in honoring the veterans and retired/active military personnel in attendance. Following the recognition, the HeartNotes will perform a live musical set, "entertaining the troops" with a USO style salute to WWII. To make the program more comfortable for our honored guests (since early June can be quite warm), seating at this year's D-Day remembrance event will be shaded underneath a large tent. Electric fans will be in place, to help keep everyone cool, and souvenir hand-fans and bottled water will be distributed, as well. This event is free to the public, suitable for all ages. It's a wonderful way to remember and to thank those members of the greatest generation, men and women who sacrificed so much for our freedom. If you know a WWII veteran who plans to attend, we ask that you let us know ahead of time, so that we may reserve a special seat for the veteran and their family members. Please let us know if the veteran requires any special consideration, such as space for a wheelchair. To make a reservation for a WWII veteran, call 256-237-6261. All other seating is first-come, first-seated.

D-Day 2015: Honor and Remember attendees will also have the chance to tour the Berman Museum galleries, and to view Infamy: December 7, 1941, a special exhibition from the WWII Museum in New Orleans. Infamy, a moving and powerful exhibit of period photos, recounts the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, and forms the basis of Berman Museum's newest permanent addition to the WWI and WWII Hall. Visitors to the Museum's second floor galleries will travel through time alongside the soldiers and sailors of the allied forces, exploring the collected photos, personal items and military paraphernalia of the time.

BIG FISH is a new Broadway musical featuring music and lyrics by Tony nominee Andrew Lippa (The Addams Family, The Wild Party) and a new book by esteemed screenwriter John August (Big Fish, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory).

Based on the celebrated novel by Daniel Wallace, an Alabama native, and the acclaimed film directed by Tim Burton, BIG FISH centers on Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman who lives life to its fullest and then some! Edward's incredible, larger-than-life stories thrill everyone around him most of all, his devoted wife Sandra. Overflowing with heart, humor and spectacular stagecraft, BIG FISH is an extraordinary new Broadway musical that reminds CharACTers why we love going to the theatre for an experience that's richer, funnier and BIGGER than life itself.

The Rattlesnake Rattlers at Dugger Mountain Music Hall
20 JUNE 2015
05:00 pm - 07:00 pm

The Rattlesnake Rattlers are a folk string band from the heart of Dixie. Some call it a jug band; some call it a redneck orchestra; others call it hobo blues. At any rate, these Alabama boys and girls have revived a sound that could have easily been lost with the memories of those who enjoyed true southern folk music, which was played by bands made up of true artists. Fortunately, the Rattlers are making sure that this sound will not be lost. The group is composed of 8 members who fill the stage like a congregation: Micah Dempsey, Kelsey Girdwood, Brad Dempsey, Kevin Brown, Trevor Stewart, Gillian McCary, Jody Wood, and Andrew Harper. If the Appalachian Foothills could sing, then The Rattlesnake Rattlers would be her voice. Their shows are a foot-stompin' experience, spiritual and percussive, which would probably sound even better on your porch, without the microphones. The combination of stringed instruments, assorted percussion, and a gang of singers speak straight to your soul, from theirs.

There is no cost for dinner or the show as our financial policy is "freely give-freely receive"

4th Annual Anniston Runners Club Remembrance Run
25 JULY 2015
07:30 am - 09:00 am

FREE! This is a run to remember....those we have loved and lost or those whom we just love.

This run is designed to take a moment to simply remember those people who mean something to us, a way to hold them dear as we run the Woodstock 5K course the week before the big event. Did you lose a loved one this year? Has someone inspired you to train harder? Just want to run in someone's honor? This event is for you.

Created as a low-key, poignant event to help people train for the club's largest race, the first Remembrance Run in 2012 proved to be a huge success with more than 150 runners taking part.

Memorial bibs are offered to all who want them, and the names of those for whom you are running can be written on the bibs. Water/Gatorade are stationed at the finish of the race. The clock will be in place at the finish.

Start time: Same as Woodstock - 7:30 a.m.

This run is open to everyone, not just ARC members.

Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella
18 SEPTEMBER 2015 - 27 SEPTEMBER 2015
07:30 pm - 02:30 pm

The timeless enchantment of a magical fairy tale is reborn with the Rodgers & Hammerstein hallmarks of originality, charm and elegance.

Originally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, Rodgers & Hammerstein's CINDERELLA was the most widely viewed program in the history of the medium.

This lush production features an incredible score, jaw-dropping transformations, and all the moments you love the pumpkin, the glass slipper, the ball, and more!

As adapted for the stage, with great warmth and more than a touch of hilarity, the hearts of children and adults alike still soar when the slipper fits. Be transported back to your childhood as you rediscover some of Rodgers + Hammerstein's most beloved songs, including "In My Own Little Corner," "Impossible/It's Possible" and "Ten Minutes Ago" in this hilarious and romantic theatrical experience for anyone who's ever had a dream. This Enchanted Edition is based on the 1997 teleplay.
